Randall Thomsen has a well-deserved reputation as a creative and tenacious litigator, handling complex commercial cases in state and federal courts. He has been involved in several precedent-setting published decisions, including Sabey v. Howard Johnson & Co. (recognizing the right to assert a claim for common law indemnity), Fluke Corp. v. Hartford Accident & Indem. Co. (recognizing the insurability of punitive damages in Washington), Professional Marine Co. v. Certain Underwriters' at Lloyds (acknowledging the ability to directly sue Underwriters at Lloyds), and Strain v. West Travel, Inc. (holding that federal law preempts Washington's minimum wage law for maritime operators).

Thomsen is also the author of "Tort Claims and Judgments as Debts for 'Willful and Malicious Injury' Nondischargeable Under Section 523(a)(6) of the Bankruptcy Code," 100 Commercial Law Journal 498 (1995) and "Washington State Property Tax Foreclosures: Quaerere Dat Sapere Quae Sunt Legitima Vere," 32 Gonzaga Law Review 123 (1996/97).
