David
Danielson has a broad commercial litigation practice with a speciality
in maritime law. He is one of only four maritime lawyers from
our state recognized in The Best Lawyers in America (Naifeh &
Smith, several editions). Dave has handled cases involving every
facet of marine, insurance, and personal injury law, and is a
leading practitioner in complex marine cargo subrogation matters
and in insurance coverage cases. He has tried cases in Washington,
Alaska and California, and is a member of the Maritime Law Association,
the Comite Maritime International, and the ABA Maritime Litigation
Committee.
Since
Dave became Of Counsel to the firm, he has added to his repertoire
by serving as criminal defense counsel at the United Nations Rwanda
War Crimes Tribunal in Arusha, Tanzania, and as a special legal
consultant to the International Rescue Committee. In the latter
capacity, he has investigated the laws of Sierra Leone as they
relate to crimes against women and the extent to which that country's
legal system can properly handle those cases. While there, he
advised the IRC concerning its relationship with the Special Court
for Sierra Leone. He recently completed a study of the traditional
justice system used by Burmese refugees in camps along the Thai-Burma
border for the IRC and the UN High Commission for Refugees.
